Support Alaskan Artists

Alaska Dispatch, an online newsletter, wrote a wonderful article this last December, explaining how shoppers can find fabulous gifts, and support Alaskan artists, by browsing Etsy, with the "Shop Local" feature. This is a wonderful tool for finding crafters in your area, or your favorite country, etc. (We were very flattered that they mentioned ThoseAlaskanGirls in this article, and included a photo of SLUGS!)

How does Etsy make it so easy to support artists, both in your area, and around the world? On the front page, at http://www.etsy.com/, toward the bottom left corner, you will see a box with a collection of links. The "Shop Local" link will send you to a search engine, and you can type in any location you want, and browse, shop, and get inspired!

Curious about Ketchikan artists selling their goods on Etsy? I did some research for you!

  1. Wow, so many ketchikan crafters! You forgot babypockets.etsy.com. Probably didn't find her because her shop is empty at the moment. She makes beautiful silk slings for carrying your baby around. I know she has a few that are almost ready to be listed, plus she can always make you a custom.

  2. Thanks for reminding me...she has a beautiful shop! I am sure there are even more, but if they aren't listed as Ketchikan, I don't know how to find them!

  3. Hey Melissa,

Thanks so for including a link to my shop in your blog. I love living in Ketchikan and I am ready to go fishing again soon! I am hoping to catch one as big as you are holding in your picture. Thanks again and if it ever gets cold enough here I am planning on buying some slugs:) Love the blog!

  4. Wow...Thanks for taking the time to do this! The extra exposure did the trick - we (millzers) had our first two sales ever!! (Don't expect a commission though!)

Now the boys are going to have to get busy with their scarves. They don't like the business end nearly as much as creating but the thought of more sales should be a powerful motivator.
