Win FREE Pajamas in the Hatley Photo Contest!

Who doesn't love the adorable prints that splash across Hatley's pajamas, and rain gear?
Did you know they have a photo contest and the winner wins FREE pajamas?!?

Chase won last August with this photo!

A few behind the scenes shots

He was dancing like the bears on his pajamas...

He was very excited to pick new pajamas off their website!

I tried to convince him to pick these...

He ended up selecting these (Another great pick, but they are all really great!)
Another favorite
Hatley has a website, where you can order directly, or find a location near you! You can also become a fan of Hatley on Facebook to get updates on special deals, etc.

Ciao ciao,

Beach Glass Star Fish Ornaments

I was inspired by Dana's blog, Made, and this clever tutorial she posted to make St. Patrick's Day Shamrocks. I loved the shamrocks, and the idea, and decided to follow her tutorial but add an Alaskan twist! Click here to find her shamrock tutorial, and on her name, (above) to check out her blog!

I LOVE how my beach glass starfish turned out!

We are never at a shortage for beach glass, (collected by my babes) and I love using the collected glass in projects where the kids can help!
I hand sewed my starfish so that I could use a variegated twine, but a sewing machine would be quick and easy too!

These colors are the perfect palette for a gorgeous starfish!

I plan to list these lovely ornaments in our etsy shop later in the year, so check back closer to Christmas time!

2010 Hummingbird Festival Call to Artists

Hummingbirds begin to arrive in Ketchikan in March. The Discovery Center invited artists to decorate feeders with unique designs, using varied media. The feeders will be displayed throughout City Park, and then auctioned off after the display period.

This is how the hummingbird feeder started out...
After going in a few different directions, I came up with this very Alaskan, ocean inspired theme for my feeder.
I love maps, and decided to mod podge ocean pieces surrounding Alaska on to the main portion of the feeder. Most items were found, but the star fish are made out of clay. I have playdough molds I made for the boys from real Star fish, and used those molds to make polymer star fish for this project. A bit of metallic paint in shades of orange and purple really made them come to life.
All of the treasures and additions were found by my babes on our many trips to the beach. Chase was very excited to contribute, while Jackson was a bit upset that his penny was stuck to the feeder.
I added a bunch of copper wire swirls to lend a polished look. Wrapped and knotted twine added texture and helped transform the original red plastic.

Lastly, I really doused it in layer after layer of super tough polyurethane, which will hopefully protect it on the rainy days!

Rainy Kayaking Adventure

A rainy day kayaking adventure! We were about 20 feet away from five very large sea lions at the start of our trip, but getting my camera out of my pocket, which was under my life jacket, didn't happen during the first half of the trip! I will take more pictures next time.

Chase and Mom in the front!

We were accompanied by this AK Mama/Daughter duo! It was the first kayaking trip for Paige, but Emily is a seasoned pro.
I can't think of a better way to spend a rainy day!

Everybody like Ruffles! CONTEST!

Ruffle It Up!
I used a pair of 4t jeans, and a pair of adult jeans to make this apron!

It was a cold and rainy day for a photo shoot but I was afraid I might not get around to photographing it in time for the contest, if it didn't get done today!
Kenzie was a wonderful model, as usual!

The denim wasn't easy to ruffle, and I ended up just ruffling it as I went along, instead of pinning first. Worth the work in the end though!
Of course I had to make a little "AK Girl" style headscarf in a tiny size, to match the apron!
If you have anything to ruffle, enter it in the contest!

Custom Alaskan Bridesmaids Earring

My friends are getting married in April, and I was asked to make sterling silver earrings for the bridesmaids. I decided that they needed to have some sort of "Alaskan" presentation, (like the rest of my jewelry). I took this sweet picture at one of our beaches, and love the way it adds a personal touch to her gift for her bridesmaids!

Superheroes

After a Sunday morning of family t~ball, the boys were climbing up on the bleachers and the sky looked beautiful. I had to take this picture since it looked like they were flying! (Grandma and Papa are holding their feet so they don't fall!)

Boys will be boys

Zooming in. . .

This is a portion of a photo of me and the boys, at the top of Deer Mountain. When I was first going through the photos, I thought I had something all over my computer screen. When I zoomed in, however, I discovered that little Jack Jack actually had a bug on his eye and a stick attached to his chin. I guess we don't call him Action Jackson for nothing! :)
