Neile's Butterfly Jewelry

One of my very favorite Etsy purchases came from this beautiful shop!

Neile handcrafts the most gorgeous jewelry for butterfly lovers. I purchased my necklace in early '08 and absolutely love it. The real blue morpho butterfly is encased in glass, and has funky metal detailing around all the edges. It is an incredible piece that I just want to stare at all day long. It is very sturdy, yet not heavy at all. Gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous. I could gush on and on about my necklace, which is probably why I wear it all the time!
I highly recommend you browse Neile's incredible work on Etsy! She makes necklaces in all sizes (with single wings too), rings and earrings. She is an incredible artist!
After you are done oooohing and ahhhhhing about these next photos, click on them to see the listings in her shop!
Some of my favorites!

Save Your Wine Corks!

I've been working on this collection for awhile now, and love the character it adds to our dining room! There are lots of friends and family to thank for the many corks thus far. The frame was a thrift store score. I found some Elmer's Wood Glue in our basement, and keep it upstairs now, as this is a board that slowly grows, cork by cork. Any glue would work for this project though.

I usually add them in pairs, with a few champagne corks, (cut in half), scattered here and there. You could cut all your corks in half if you wanted, but I leave mine whole so they stick out more.

A great little dining room piece!

I just finished creating this pendant as a custom piece per request of a great friend of mine. She wanted the word TRUTH incorporated in sterling, but gave me free reign when it came to the actual design of the piece. This spiral shape immediately popped into my head as a beautiful way to showcase one meaningful word. Gentle hammering completed my vision, and I am really pleased with the end result.

Support Alaskan Artists

Alaska Dispatch, an online newsletter, wrote a wonderful article this last December, explaining how shoppers can find fabulous gifts, and support Alaskan artists, by browsing Etsy, with the "Shop Local" feature. This is a wonderful tool for finding crafters in your area, or your favorite country, etc. (We were very flattered that they mentioned ThoseAlaskanGirls in this article, and included a photo of SLUGS!)

How does Etsy make it so easy to support artists, both in your area, and around the world? On the front page, at, toward the bottom left corner, you will see a box with a collection of links. The "Shop Local" link will send you to a search engine, and you can type in any location you want, and browse, shop, and get inspired!

Beautiful Sunday kayak ride at the lake. . .

What a beautiful February we are having in Ketchikan!

Sunday marked the first kayak ride for the boys!

This sock monkey hat is hands down my favorite hat I have ever made. I can't help but smile everytime I see it, and I think the boys love it almost as much as I do! Sometime soon, I will include a tutorial on how I made it!
