Two Day Getaway to Pretty Petersburg, Alaska

I took a quick two day trip to lovely Petersburg for my job with Peace Health. We couldn't have timed it better for the weather! We fit two community forums and another meeting in to our two days.
***Just a little FYI if you are ever hosting an event in Petersburg...Liv & Heidi's Kjokken Catering Service is fabulous! They catered all three of our meetings and everything was incredibly delicious! Not to mention, Liv and Heidi are sweet as can be. :)
Here are a few shots I snapped of the picturesque town while we were walking back and forth between the Waterfront Bed and Breakfast and the Petersburg Medical Clinic.

Here was the wonderfully Alaskan view from my room...

(My camera was left on digital macro for previous closeup jewelry photography, and I didn't realize this while we were there, so the quality of these photos is a bit grainy...sorry! :) )

I want my craft room to be this glowing turquoise color!

(This next photo is for my parents...look what I stumbled upon in Petersburg!!!...)

Now I am very excited about these next photos! The crafty Petersburg folk PAINT their Xtra Tufs! WHAT a GRAND idea! They beautifully embellished them in the traditional painting style called Rosemaling, (Norwegian Rose Painting). Charming touches of this style can be seen on many Petersburg shopfronts, which celebrates their rich history and tradition.

This wonderful boot was found inside The Cubby Hole...a fantastic little craft store with all sorts of awesome supplies. I dropped a bit more money than anticipated when I discovered the charm section! :) Stay tuned for new designs on Etsy very soon! Kathy, the owner, said they use oil paints on the boots, which seem to hold up fine with light wear. I am definitely going to let this idea roll around in my head for a bit...

Lee's Clothing Store also had a handpainted Xtra Tuf welcoming customers in the front door. Lee's is a great store for ALL of your outdoor clothing, camping gear, shoes and boots, accessories. I finally got a pair of Smart Wool pants for camping/kayaking trips with the fam! They also carry a GORGEOUS selection of Norwegian sweaters, blankets, and jewelry.

All in all, it isvery apparent that Petersburg has extremely talented and creative artists!

They also have some cool shop names, like Wild Celery, Forget Me Not Floral, Seaport Gallery, and the Cubby Hole, among many other wonderful shops!

I am really looking forward to the time when ThoseAlaskanGirls can make it happen, and join in on the Little Norway Festival and Oktoberfest Fun in Petersburg, Alaska!

Every Pirate Mama NEEDS this Booty!

An accidental click on Etsy, and I stumbled upon this incredible pirate booty...perfect for every Pirate Mama who likes to go on adventures like this...
Serendipity perhaps, that these randomly appeared on my screen? I do believe so...
I am so intrigued by this random, mismatched, hodgepodged, collaged collection of treasures and textures...this is so incredibly funky and cool! It is available here, and she calls it the salvaged antique lace pirate's necklace...(I don't know why, but I LOVE the word "salvaged")... Isn't this an amazingly creative piece?

Oh oh, now this is awesome too... I would wear it on my pinky finger and my boys would think I was the coolest Pirate Mama ever... Maybe my boys will happen upon a necklace or ring like these while out on an adventure...

You never know when you are going to find treasure...

*wink wink*

Enchanting Colors of Spring

Welcome to Whale Park, while everything is in full bloom. This gorgeous little park is a favorite adventure site for the boys, is located right in the middle of downtown Ketchikan, is shaped like a whale (hence the name) and has even been known to host a few geocaches from time to time!

The large blooms have transformed the park into an enchanting garden.

Obviously I couldn't resist this lighting and built in frame... (I wonder if I could fade out the street in the background?)

Someday I will learn to grow and nurture a garden like this...

Apparently my claim to fame is in a slightly different direction...Last year Chase made sure to tell everyone that his mom was the best at growing dandelions! Thank you Chaser, for tooting my horn! :)

I have since taken to planting forget me nots and daisies...everywhere. Gotta stick to what works!

Lovely little church

The colors are so refreshing! Spring is here!

Happy Spring!

Story Boats, Part 3

Are you ready for an Adventure?

Calling all Lil' Rascals...

...that need to be Killin' Time...("Mom, we don't say Kill right?")

"Baby, why don't we go down to Kokomo?..."

(One of my fave songs to sing with the kids, so we were very excited to find this one!)

Can you move as fast as the Silver Surfer?

Anything that includes Maiden sounds like a beautiful name for a boat to me...

I suppose you could say ThoseAlaskanGirls are "Pro Alaskan"... :)

Question: If you had your own boat, what would you name it?

*Rayana..."Barnacle Bill"
*Chase..."Treasure Boat
*Jack Jack "BananaHead"
*Melissa "Cerulean"
(I also always liked the name of my family's boat, which was "Gypsy Rose.")
So tell us, what would you name your boat, OR what is the name of your boat??

Totem Pole Infatuation, One Totem, Many Photos

I didn't realize I had taken so many photos of this lone totem pole (located at Whale Park in downtown Ketchikan), until I was uploading my photos...

I just wanted one nice picture...

Capturing the totem pole, a little sky, and the beautiful pink blooms...

It has proven an extremely difficult task for me to select just one to share though...

So I figured I might as well show you all of them...

And let you settle on a favorite...

Which one do you like best?

Make a Wish Inspiration and Jewelry Designs

Take a minute to remember seeing a dandelion through your childhood eyes. Gently blowing the seeds, and watching them get carried off in the wind. I wanted to create some jewelry pieces that captured that magic...and that would serve as a little reminder to make a wish, and believe that it might come true...
I couldn't help but get inspired to create my own take on the popular dandelion design.
The relaxed colors of the hammmered sterling and brass make for a beautiful tribute to what some call a weed, and to what my son calls the "best flower in the world."

Delicate little earrings too!

What do you wish for?

When You Can't Wear Boots, Wear These...

Jake bought Rayana these cute little ballet they appear to be ordinary ballet flats?? Well...there just so happens to be one little twist!

They are rainboot ballet flats! No joke. He got them from Nordstroms. Who thinks Jake deserves the best boyfriend award, for loving and supporting Rayana's AK Girl Style? I think he also deserves a new pair of SLUGS for men! ;)

***Photo tip: I shined my car lights on her shoes, to give this photo a spotlight effect. Using a flash would have darkened the background scenery. You can see my Caught in the Headlights Technique in this photo as well.

Photographing a Toddler on the Beach

The plan had been to take a nice portrait of Jack on the beach... I ended up with a whole series of pictures. Far from the portrait I wanted, but oh so typical! I present to you two minutes in the life of my youngest son...

If you are feeling a sense of deja vu, you are right...I did post a whole Little Red Riding Hood series on Jackson not to long ago, which you can find here.
